Welcome to Wordpress! This is my first posting on my new system, and it feels good to know that most of the hard part is over. I’ve decided to rename my blog “Flailing Wildly” because I think it fits me pretty well, and it sounds better than “Skyzyx.com”. I’m also wanting to move to something more professional sounding that covers any domain name I may want to have, so “Skyzyx.com” is now officially “Skyzyx Technologies”. For those who don’t know, I started working on my website’s redesign about a year and a half ago.
Is Today The Day? It Is!
The contractions are about 15 minutes apart right now. She said she’d be surprised to make it to lunchtime. Is Baby Matthew coming today? Update: After having contractions all day long (mostly at home), the doctors broke her water at 10:00pm and Baby Matthew was born at 10:39pm! 21 inches long; 8 pounds 5.8 ounces. The kid is totally chill. He’s hardly cried the whole time, and he seems like he’s just hangin’ out trying to take it all in. Baby and mommy are both healthy, although a bit tired.
Apple's NeXT Step: Mac OS X86™
I’ve spent much of the last 10 years evangelizing for Apple, Apple’s products, and Apple’s PowerPC architecture. Even during the darkest times (1994 through 1997-ish), I remained one of “the faithful” to the Mac platform (along with hacking up System 7 with ResEdit =) ). I have tons of clippings from old Mac magazines like MacAddict (back when they were still edgy and cool) still plastered on walls and binders left over from high school. To name a few: [MacAddict] Fighting back for the Mac - 225 MHz!
Tiger Revisited: A Month Into It
I decided to revisit this topic again as first impressions aren’t always the best or most accurate impressions, and frankly, a lot can change in a month. After spending quite a bit more time exploring, I’ve learned quite a bit more about our beloved Mac OS X Tiger. Since the last time I talked about my Tiger experience, I’ve reinstalled Tiger using the “Archive and Install” option as opposed to the “Simple Install” option I used the first time. This cleared up my problem of the phantom ClamAV user account I’d mentioned before.
Sweet Little Utility: BluePhoneElite
Normally, new bits of software don’t warrant a normal posting on this site, but I’ve just found a little Mac OS X utility that’s awesome! The utility is called BluePhoneElite. If you have a Bluetooth phone that is compatible with iSync (you’ll have to check the site for exact compatibility details), this little thing is a gem! Depending on your phone’s level of compatibility with Bluetooth and such, you can: Have an alert show up on your screen when someone calls you, listing their name, phone number, and picture — pulled straight from your Address Book!
Mac OS X: A Look Back
I’ve just spent about 3 hours reading over these old (and new) articles about Mac OS X. I remember back in 1999, reading about how Rhapsody was being renamed as Mac OS X, and how it would be the future of the Mac platform. After reading MacWorld articles about the new system back in 2000, I actually remember seeing these screenshots. Does this look familiar to you? Heh… old skool. Just for copyright’s sake, these images are from Ars Technica.

Matthew Madness!
My son, Matthew Taylor Parman, is due in about 3 weeks. I can’t believe how fast it’s all happened. His due date has just completely snuck up on me. “Ah, we have time…”, but apparently not. I’m trying to remember life with a newborn. All I remember about last time is that it was miserable getting up in the middle of the night, and hating life when it was my turn to get up with the baby. My daughter Julianna is super excited to meet her brother, “Baby Matthew”, that we’ve been talking about for the last eight months (well, actually only four months, because that was when we found out it was a boy; before it was just “The Baby”).
American Idol 2005
Well, I can’t resist bragging about this. I called it… for the second year in a row. Last year, the top 32 sang in groups of 8 people per week for 4 weeks, before the group got whittled down to the top 12. In the first group of 8, the first person to sing was Diana Degarmo, and the last was Fantasia Barrino. After hearing them sing (and before I’d heard the other 24 contestants sing), I made the “official” prediction to my friends and family that 4–5 months later, Fantasia would finish #1 and Diana would finish #2.
