For those wondering about more regular updates, they’re coming. :) Until then, I got this email from a friend not too long ago. It’s one of my favorites because I’ve actually done some of these. At lunch time, sit in your parked car and point a hair dryer at passing cars to see if they slow down. Page yourself over the intercom. (Don’t disguise your voice.) Insist that your e mail address is: [email protected] or Elvis-the-King@companyname.
Skyzyx.com Is Temporarily Down
Nobody freak out! My primary domain, Skyzyx.com, is temporarily down while I switch webhosts. Service should only be down for a few days at most, so if there’s something hosted on that domain that you’re looking for, it should all be back up shortly. Update: It’s back up again. Move along. There’s nothing to see here.
Movie Reviews 2005
Every summer, I usually do a write-up of all of the movies I went to go see when I was on vacation. This year, however, I didn’t go on vacation, as this was the summer when my son was born. That, and I’m a contractor right now at my current job, so I don’t get all the benefits that include vacation time. So this year, I’m going to write about the movies that I was able to see any time at all throughout the summer (they were rather sparse), and one of them was already on DVD.
Zeldman in 1996
I had posted this link in my sidebar a while back, but it’s something that I get a kick out of every time I see it. It’s always interesting to see how the father of the web standards movement got started… Zeldman.com in 1996 »
Fix: QuickTime Playing Flash Files in my Browser
Alright, this has been bothering the heck out of me since I downloaded the first QuickTime 7 Preview for Windows a few months ago. Everytime I’m supposed to see a Flash animation on a webpage, I instead see a faded QuickTime logo with a question mark over it. It took me until tonight to get irritated enough to do something about it, and now I’m going to tell you how to fix it. The Problem: I was checking out a cool site tonight, and saw this:
Status Icon Sets: Flat, Glass, and Shadow
I’ve been doing tons of Ajax development at work lately. One of my projects (that I built on my own time, and therefore own complete rights to — just in case there was a question) was a very very simple content management system designed only to read/write news postings to the database (with support for Textile formatting), and generate an RSS feed, all with a slick Ajax-based interface. I pitched it to my boss as a replacement for the one we currently had in place, and then implemented it as a tool for our in-house intranet.
Draggable Lists
I’ve been working a lot with Oracle Portal over the last few months. My company is in the process of moving everything over to Oracle technology, and I’m a UI designer on the Portal team. We’ve been in the midst of usability testing over the last week or so, and one thing that has been coming up is the suggestion to make the “Other Tools” list of links customizable in some way. Most implementations typically involve clicking a button or link to go to the Edit page.
iCal TV Show Schedules
I’ve looked around for shared iCalendars for my favorite TV shows, but haven’t ever been able to find them. So, I’ve decided to do exactly that. Below are links to my shared calendars for the U.S. schedules for the following shows: 24 Alias House Lost Prison Break Smallville Supernatural Veronica Mars These should work with any iCal-enabled applications, such as iCal, Mozilla Sunbird, Mozilla Calendar, Ximian Evolution, and many others. Microsoft Outlook doesn’t yet support the iCal standard.
My Move To Services
If you’re seeing this in your feed reader, it means that the feed switchover worked without a hitch. I got all of the redirection worked out for both my weblog, as well as my sidebar links. Glad to still have you all around. While doing this, I utilized two services: FeedBurner and del.icio.us. I think that at this point, most bloggers know what del.icio.us is. It’s a way to bookmark things, and share them around. I’ve begun using this service in place of my normal bookmark functionality and it makes it infinitely easier to keep my bookmarks synced between multiple computers.
Windows Vista Fonts
I found these a couple of weeks back, and I think they’re really good, so I wanted to share them. They’re 6 fonts that are supposed to be included in Windows Vista, but they seem to work for both Windows XP and Mac OS X. Also for you sIFR users out there, I created sIFR versions that you can apply to your sites. I found these floating around online, and presumably they’ll be free at some point, so I think it would be reasonable to assume that it’s okay to pass these around.
