After looking at my “Blogs I Read” section and my “RSS Feeds” section, it dawned on me that maybe I should combine the two. They share much of the same content, except that one is geared more towards RSS feeds (I’ll let you guess which one), and the other is more for what I read on a regular basis. However, the two could definitely be better suited working together, so now they are. I’ve gotten rid of the “RSS Feeds” section but created an enhanced version of the “Blogs I Read” section.
Slickly Packaged Garbage
I’ve been as irritated as anything about the RIAA’s tactics and all of the crap that they’re pulling out about filesharing and other such stuff. While reading Scott Andrew this morning, he said something that I’ve felt for quite a long time about the music industry… Maybe the whole industry could stand a bit of downsizing. Reduce costs, help fight media consolidation, help niche markets thrive, produce good stuff instead of slickly packaged garbage aimed at radio. Then we’ll talk about how filesharing is hurting good people.
To Infinity And Beyond!
I’ve discovered something cool about JavaScript… not something useful, but something cool. I’ve discovered the end of the rainbow, or at least the Math object. I was sitting at home in my underwear eating Cheetos® and watching Cartoon Network this past Saturday, when something dawned on me. I recalled a conversation I had with my best frind about 8 years ago about the Mac’s 256, Thousands, and Millions of colors versus Windows 8, 16, and 24-bit color. He was saying that he was excited because he’d pushed his Windows 95 computer to display 16.
Season Premiere of Alias
How many people watched the season premiere of Alias tonight? After having vanished for two years, and awakening to find absolutely everything different, Sydney (Jennifer Garner) tries to make sense of it all in the typical kick-butt way that she does. It’ll be interesting to see where the show goes from here. The show revamped itself for the better twice last season, and it seems to be doing the same thing again this season. The last show that I was interested in was Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, but it got cancelled halfway into it’s fourth season.
Will Code HTML For Food
Sorry I haven’t posted in a few days, but I’ve just become an Independent Contractor for a web company. It’s taken up a bit of time, but I plan to get back to normal in this upcoming week. I’ve discovered something particularly interesting about JavaScript, although I doubt it will have any effect on the real world. I’ll post about it next time. Also, I stumbled across this image the other day. I thought it was funny…
Suck-O-Spam
When I initially set up this site, I wanted to make it as good as I possibly could. I wanted it to in-depth, thorough, and a great source of information for the users. To help make it better, I’ve opened myself up to user comments. Specifically in the JavaScript section of my site (which is where I get roughly 85% of my hits), I’ve had a long-time feature called the “Suck-O-Meter”. In some cases, it’s been great to have. I’ve been able to get a sense of what my users think about my scripts and the documentation that I provide, and have been able to apply suggested improvements in an effort to make this site as good as it can be.
Ye Scurvy Dogs!
Shiver me timbers, arrr! I’ve noticed a few sites promoting “Talk Like A Pirate Day”. Jeremy Keith even put together a “Talk Like A Pirate” translator. Oh boy!
Subtle Changes And My Calendar
I’ve made a few subtle changes to my CSS stylesheet. The yellow I used for quoting and noting code was beginning to hurt my eyes. So, I’ve changed a few colors to make it all blend a little better. I’ve also done some fine-tuning on the spacing of certain elements (namely <h?> tags). I also released the new version of my calendar script tonight. It’s a shiny, new version 1.2 and a whopping 7.19k for the JavaScript library, the CSS file, three (count them, three) demo files, and an XML document.
Snoop Dogg Shizzolator
After reading a post over at Eric Meyer’s site about the Snoop Dogg Shizzolator, I figured I had to try it out. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen something as funny as this on the internet (besides Ebaum’s Epilepsy Test). I thought it was so funny, that I saved a “Shizzolated” copy of my article “Play By The Rules”. Here’s a snippet: Yo’ a** don’t throw a baseball down da field fo’ a 50-yard touchdown n’ sh**. Yo’ a** don’t kick a basketball past a goalie score a point n’ sh**.
LIR vs FIR
An Introduction Ever since I rolled out version 21.0 of my website in early August (dubbed “Oxygen 2003”), I’ve been using FIR technique to swap out text for images in CSS browsers. Today, I realized that it presents accessibility problems for screen readers such as JAWS and IBM Home Page Reader. They understand the CSS display:none;, but they don’t understand media types (same issue with WebTV/MSN-TV — they understand @import, but not media types — doh!). Also, FIR fails in IE5/Mac.
