Tarzan is "a fast, powerful PHP toolkit for building web applications with Amazon Web Services."

Amazon Web Services (AWS) are a collection of web services that provide in-the-cloud computing, storage, messaging, and more. It is designed to make web-scale computing easier for developers.

Tarzan is a collection of PHP5 classes intended to make it as easy as possible to use Amazon's web services, allowing developers to write as little code as possible. At the time of this writing, Tarzan has complete support for S3, SQS, and SimpleDB, as well as partial (in-progress) support for EC2 and Amazon Associates Web Service (AAWS).

I developed Tarzan as part of the upcoming WarpShare service, and released it under the open-source Simplified BSD license so that other members of the community can benefit from (and contribute to) this work.

What was done (website)

  • Created an entirely-new website as the previous one was hosted on Google Code where, although very functional, is also very ugly.
  • Designed the homepage to be simple to use and clutter-free while still showcasing software features.
  • Moved all of the documentation into a wiki, allowing end-users to contribute to this community project.
  • Streamlined and enhanced the download and development pages.
  • We designed the entire front page to contain everything important in an 1024x768 window.
  • The result was substantially increased user interest in the project, more downloads, and more community participation.
